What does G5 assess?

Capacity for greater independence and involvement in his or her care

G5 measures how much a person can take on greater independence and be involved in their own care. It looks at their capacity and willingness to participate in care decisions and to carry out care tasks with support if needed. This helps determine how much the person can take control of their care planning and daily routines in the future.

This differs from current ADL status, which notes what activities the person can do right now, and from driving ability or urinary continence, which relate to other aspects of function not about engagement in care decisions.
